File Formatting Instructions for Adobe PageMaker (PC or Mac)
- We accept files from PageMaker up to version 7 from both Mac and PC
- Create a new document with the dimensions of the final page size. For multiple sets of business cards or postcards, use only one document and place each set on a different page
- Set your page size to the trim size of your finished product (e.g. business card's page size is 3.5" x 2")
- Include 1/8" bleed (0.125”) if applicable
- Do not apply text attributes such as bold, or italics with the help of PageMaker. If you need a word bolded, use a font which is already bolded (i.e. tahoma Bold)
- Be sure to convert all colors and graphics to CMYK process
- When you import (place) a graphic and the message asks you if you want to store the graphic in the file, choose NO. This will link the graphic, keeping your PageMaker file small.
- All graphics must be in EPS format
- If you are using a raster/bitmapped graphic, the resolution must not exceed 350 dpi. Line-art should not exceed 1200 dpi. These resolutions are assuming the graphic has been sized correctly to be placed at 100% in PageMaker with no reduction or enlargement needed
- If you use a black background, set the color for the black as follows: C=40%, M=40%, Y=20%, K=100%
Instructions to send us a print ready file (Mac):
Save the PageMaker file as an EPS: File>Print. In PageMaker select the page to output. Select Option>Write Postscript to File. Select the "EPS" button. Set the "Download Font:" to "PostScript and TrueType". Press the "Save as" button, then name file and set destination by pressing the "OK" button. Press the "Save" button
Open the file in either Illustrator or Freehand, and outline the fonts in that program. You must make sure there are no hidden characters on your artwork. (Type>Show Hidden Characters) Every font field ends with an infinity symbol. If there are symbols seen in your artwork that means there is no type before it. Delete those type fields or make sure those fonts are outlined. After outlining the fonts and checking for hidden characters, save the file again as an Illustrator EPS, with no compression, and upload to our site
Instructions to send us a print ready file (Windows):
When you have everything set up correctly, do a "save as" and rename the file. This will make the file as small as possible. PageMaker doesn't automatically reduce the file to its smallest size every time you save it
Put all the linked graphics, fonts and PageMaker file into a folder. Use the Links Manager from the File menu to ensure that you have all fonts and graphics necessary for the file to be independent
Zip the folder and upload to our site
